Carbon neutrality was the concept that the amount of carbon, or carbon, in the environment was constant. Since the Industrial Revolution, carbon in the ground and fossil fuels have been dug out, oxidized, and burned, resulting in an increase in carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the ground. The term has developed into the issue of global warming and climate change, and has become a term closely watched worldwide.

In recent years, the term “carbon neutral” has come to mean a state of equilibrium between greenhouse gas emissions and absorption, or zero greenhouse gas emissions overall.
