Since the Industrial Revolution, carbon in the ground and fossil fuels have been dug out, oxidized, and burned, resulting in an increase in carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the ground. The term has developed into the issue of global warming and climate change, and has become a term closely watched worldwide.
